Firstly, my apologies for the lack of posting recently, I'm currently working on TWO LARGE projects which are taking up a lot of my time but I know you are going to love both of them. I'll let you know more within the next couple of weeks but your not going to want to miss out so stay tuned!!
When you are listing a site for sale on Flippa, they allow you to list your website with tags to provide an alternative method for people to find your listing, just as we would when publishing a post in WordPress. Tags are also an alternative method of buyer notification, buyers are able to request notifications by email every time a new listing is placed using that particular tag. You will find that the more serious buyers with an interest in building their portfolio in a particular area will subscribe to tags and bring you well targeted traffic to a new listing IF used correctly.
Across the top of Flippa you will see a list of the most popular tags currently being used within auctions, these are a fantastic indication of the types of sites currently selling on the Flippa marketplace. These are incredibly helpful to you regardless of whether you are building a site to flip or you have a site you want to sell, immediately you can get some idea of whether your site falls into a popular 'category' or not.
If you look at the current popular tags shown above (at the time of writing this post) you will see that the current most popular tags are:
- Adsense
- Autoblog
- Clickbank
- WordPress
- Established
- Make money
Even though these tags are only ONE or TWO words in length they are already giving you a MASSIVE idea of the type of sites that are likely to sell well. In this case, just looking at the tags above can tell us that the types of site likely to sell are sites which are established, earning a monthly income, take a small amount of work to maintain and upkeep and run off the WordPress platform. It would also appear that the two most popular types of site when looking at income are sites which earn from Adsense and sites which earn from Clickbank products.
Sort By Sold Price Or Bid Number
We can view the current and past listings available for that tag by clicking on the 'All Tags' link to the right hand side of the screen. Sorting these listings by 'Sold Price' or 'Number of Bids' will enable us to see the highest priced sold item which will further allow us to examine the auction listing and the website being sold. This will give us clues about the TYPES of website selling for HIGH amounts on Flippa as well as the kind of listing tactics people are using to sell their website. The way you list your website for sale is likely to have a HUGE impact on how much interest it receives and what sort of value it finally pulls in for you.
I recently saw two fantastic examples of website sold under the 'Adsense' tag, the first sold for $7,000 and had 64 bids but only had a monthly income of $110.00 whereas the second one had a higher monthly income and sold for A LOT less. This site in particular poses a great opportunity to look further at the website itself as well as the way the site had been listed for sale. The main factors which jumped out at me when looking at these two sites side by side were the following:
- Age
- PR
- Traffic
- The Flippa listing
The site which sold for the much higher price had a Google PR 3, was 5 years old and had almost 8 times the amount of traffic, this suggests to me that whilst revenue IS important it really isn't everything. But on top of that the site which sold had been listed well by it's owner (something I will cover later this week).
Using Tags To Your Advantage
It's very easy to use these tags to your advantage, look over what sites are selling and what sites have sold under these tags and ask yourself why they sold for so little or so much. What in particular stood out to you? Was it the way the site was listed? Was it the revenue type or amount? Was it the age or traffic of the site?
If you spend half an hour or so actually going over some of the most popular sites on Flippa which SOLD you will find that there is actually some very valuable information there if you look for it. Work out what's selling, why it's selling and decide if have or you can re-create something similar to what's selling.
In the next post I will be talking about . If you don't want to miss out be sure to subscribe to my blog using one of the many methods listed below.
