Fliptactics – Getting A Head Start With Traffic, Google PR & Backlinks!
I only want to make this a short post just to let you know a little tip about getting ahead in your website flip.
One of the things which people find most difficult is getting visitors to their website in the first place, they can build some really great looking sites in really great niches but they struggle when it comes to getting traffic. Whilst there is no miracle solution to this issue, other than good marketing and hard work, there is a little tactic you can use to get yourself ahead from the very beginning.
Where do you buy your domains?
In the previous post 'Fliptactics - Building A Fliptastic Site' we saw how well a site was selling on Flippa which had high traffic, Google PR and an aged domain amongst many other things. But the reason I mention these three things in particular is simply because these are things you can sometimes get to a certain extent just by purchasing your domain name from Godaddy auctions (thanks to Mark - The Niche Store Builder for sending me here a couple of years back). Godaddy auctions have thousands of domain names listed starting from just $5 which already have traffic, Google PR and often many backlinks. In fact, just a few months a go I purchased a domain name for $5 which had:
- A high amount of targeted traffic
- A Google PR of 4
- Around 1K backlinks
I built up a website on this domain name and later Flipped it (8 months later) for a revatively good amount considering the time I had actually spent on it. Some of the bargains you can get yourself on there are fantastic regardless of whether you use them on a site you are going to flip or keep.
Check For Bad Neighbourhoods
As with everything you need to be careful when you are buying a domain name just as you would with a website and you should always check the backlinks, if the site is indexed and the history of the sites which have been hosted on there in the past. This isn't difficult and just a couple of tools you can use are:
DNScoop allows you to check the number of backlinks and the Google PR of a website BEFORE you place a bid for it on Flippa.
Have you ever bought a domain name from Flippa auctions? If not then why not head over there, type in your niche keyword, sort by traffic rating and see what sort of results you come up with.

Hey Ben,
FYI the links don’t work on your ‘The Fliptactics Series – Coming Up (I may add in more as we go along):’ section
It’s strange to see some people talking about the tdnam auctions cause I have been writing a script for it that I’ll have to link you when I get it done.

Hey Daniel,
Thanks for that, problem all sorted now.
Yes, I’d love to see what it can do, let me know once you have it done either via the BANS forum or by my support desk and I’ll get back to you.
Thanks for stopping by.
Ben :)
Another great one Ben – I have to say… 90% of the domains I buy now are through the TDNAM (GoDaddy Auctions)
Its a no-brainer… $15 bucks for a 10 year old, aged, and traffic already coming domain!!
There are GEMS in the auction house!

Well thanks to you that I found them Mark, I think you mentioned them to me around 2 years back and since then I’ve found some great bargains with great traffic, great backlinks and Google PR. Good to get any new site off and running with a push.
The only bad thing about tdnam is the mandatory 90 day waiting period to transfer the domain.
also make sure the Pagerank isn’t fake.
google info:domain.com and check if the display url matches the domain for sale.
@Ben- you said you bought a domain name a while back with high traffic, PR4 and 1k backlinks then flipped it on flippa…. why wouldn’t you build it out into a niche site and keep it? did you need/want the quick cash?
Thanks for the tips about the auction though… wa unaware of it. I would pay much more than $5/domain for one with stats like you got but i totally understand your point.
Thanks
Hi Junior,
Nope didn’t need the cash but it wasn’t a ‘Niche Site’ domain name in this instance and so it’s uses were very limited. If it hadn’t of been then I would have kept it for sure but I had no interest in developing it any further. Plus I’ve already got too many that I haven’t done anything with.
