CompariPress PCU – Style Settings Preview

Written By Ben Johnson on 16 March 2010 14 People Commented

In the previous video "CompariPress Video Preview", I took the time to show you how easy it was to create a price comparison unit containing your selected products and insert it into your WordPress pages or posts.  I wanted to create this next video in response to 3 frequently asked questions which I've received on the blog and through the support desk over the last few days. What I've tried to demonstrate for you  is how easy it is for ANYONE to use CompariPress PCU to quickly and easily create nicely styled price comparison units for their WordPress affiliate website. The video is just over 7 minutes in length, so my apologies for that but I think you will find it useful to watch!

    Ben,

It looks very easy to use and configure. I’d like to see a color wheel where we can change colors in the future. Hex code is not my friend.

    Jeff,

I’m sure this is something we can look at for the future release list. In the meantime I find ColorCop from http://www.Colorcop.net is a fantastic (FREE) tool which you can use to grab colors you like and use the HEX code, you may already use it, but if not then it’s certainly a tool I would recommend.

    Ben,

The other thing I’ve got to ask to be sure is besides Amazon and Overstock, we have to see what items come up under the CJ and Linkshare keyword searches and get approved for the the vendors specified?

In other words, there isn’t any general affiliate account by any of these networks that allows us to get paid without being approved by the individual merchant.

I know the question sounds dense of me but right now CJ and Overstock are a bit tricky for my sites. I don’t rank well enough to get approved for everything.

    Jeff,

No, unfortunately there isn’t any way around the fact you have to be approved to earn a commission from the merchant. This is where our Shopping.com version was advantagous.

    The way it works is:

For CJ – You have to be approved to earn a commission from any particular merchant, within the CompariPress config screen you can enter the advertiser ID’s (all covered in the manual) which you wish to display products from. If you haven’t entered an advertiser ID then ALL merchants will be included in your search, even ones you aren’t affiliated with. Overstock.com will be included as part of CJ and you must be approved by them in order to earn a commission.

for Linkshare – You will only get products returned from merchants who you ARE affiliated with, there is no other option there.

You’d be surprised the amount of products you can return though, Jeff. If you look on my golf site I think I’m approved with 3 golf merchants in Linkshare and around 6 in CJ.com and there are a HUGE amount of products available. Not to mention you are getting products from Amazon, Amazon Marketplace and Overstock (if you’re approved).

I hope this answers your question.

That’s what I was kind of driving at…that the plugin DOES help you identify merchants you need to apply with in CJ. That’s helpful as opposed to hoping you’ve applied with enough vendors in a niche to get a decent volume of offers.

Good going there. Wish the Linkshare stuff worked that way too.

Yes CJ basically brings back everything if you don’t put a merchant ID in. Unfortunately the Linkshare API is either from approved merchants or no merchants, they don’t offer a happy medium like CJ :(.

did i miss the early bird notification for this plugin. I saw that it should have been released at 12pm EST on the 16th to those on the subscription list but i never got an email. I checked all folders and nothing is there either. I am sure i signed up to the early notification list as it generated an ‘auto email notification’ to my email saying i did.

    Have I missed it somewhere??

    Thanks

    Hi Jr,

The email went out yesterday afternoon so not sure why it didn’t reach you. CompariPress will be open to the public in around 2 hrs 30 minutes anyway but I’ll email you the early bird link in a sec.

Just to let you know Ben. It seems that your early bird mail system didn’t work. I also did not receive the early bird note, although I did receive your previous mails.

Good luck to your new project!

    Wang,

If definitely worked as I’ve as more than 70% of the emails have been opened by users it appears some have either ended up in spam boxes. The email was only sent to the CompariPress.com list and not my blog list.

We should have it open to the public in just over an hour in any case.

    Thanks for stopping by.

Yeh, I found it in the spambox! But it’s strange your previous mails were not caught by the spambox.

It’s sometimes the links in the email, I only inserted 1 link but some mail clients don’t like it. My apologies you missed the email Wang.
