My Favourite Video WordPress Plugin

Over the last few months I've been placing more and more videos into the content of my Affiliate Websites, no matter which platform they have been built with, but one of the biggest challenges I always found was which video WordPress plugin to use. In the past I've always used Smart Youtube and whilst this is a fantastic little plugin for what it is, it never had everything I quite wanted from a video plugin. After some more digging I finally came across this little beauty:

Video Sidebar Widgets

This is probably one of the best FREE Video WordPress plugins I've come across and it's now officially my most favourite! As the name suggests it allows you to post flash videos and videos from video sharing sites directly into your WordPress sidebar using widget functionality AND it enables you to place videos within your pages/posts, just like SmartYoutube does.  The following video sharing networks are currently supported:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • WordPress.tv
  • Veoh
  • Metacafe
  • Revver
  • Blip.tv
  • MySpace Videos
  • DailyMotion
  • Viddler
  • Tudou
  • Youku
  • 6.cn
  • Google Videos
  • Tangle

This plugin has 2 WordPress widgets, one for displaying a specific video and another for displaying a video from 5 random videos you've selected. There is also a video quicktag function in the WordPress TinyMCE Editor, making inserting videos into content quick and easy.

    Ben, great tip, I will check out this video plugin. I am sure my fav plugins are the usual fav’s. I do have a “check this out”. There is a little cheap script ($47)called Utility Poster that makes finding the right video faster and easier and when you find the right one, you can just drag and drop it in your WP post. You can bring the comments over with it also. I am not an affliate, just passing this along as another helpful tool. http://www.utilityposter.com/special.htm

    I wonder why they never built proper video embedding into WP3?

    It’s a great little plugin, perfect for showing random product reviews in the sidebar with a link in the video caption to your product page. I do wish you could paste your own code into the random sidebar widget though as I use ExpoTV for A LOT of videos.

    I completely agree Tao, I expected them to do something with the multimedia features, I expect it’s something they will look at in this version.

    Basically you can have an interactive gallery of hundreds of videos which play on your site.

    Things ok – oh apart from getting my best sites tanked after the last dance, weirdly getting the traffic back for 1 of them but not the sales – weird – oh and they are all on artemia – coincidence?
    yeah, I like Xondie, I’ve not attempted to use smartyoutube but your suggestion looks good

    Sorry about the loss of positions, I know a lot of us have felt it, one of my top earning sites also lost it’s number 1 position for a very high traffic phrase which it’s ranked for for almost two years. The site isn’t even in the top 100 for the phrase.

    It’s just a case of going with it and doing what you can to get the sites back. It’s not likely to be anything to do with the theme (other than load times), I’ve got a good number of sites using Arthemia which were un-affected.
