The act of outsourcing tasks which you don't have the time to do or don't need to be doing can be a great way of expanding your business a little quicker than you would without outsourcing. I've been outsourcing quite a few things over the last six months and it is enabling me to concentrate in the more "important" aspects of things whilst still being able to grow the business.
Almost anything can be outsourced but it will usually be dependant on your own business plan, model and financial budget, in Affiliate Website Building in particular there are a large number of things. In fact pretty much everything, apart from initial research, can be outsourced. Probably one of the most common tasks you will find people outsourcing is content creation, both for their own websites and for marketing purposes e.g. Squidoo content, article content, hub content etc, etc. A number of other things could include:
- Keyword research
- Logo creation
- Creating/Building your website
- Marketing your website
- Link building
And the list can go on and on!
Why Would You Want To Outsource?
There maybe several reasons why you want to outsource, many people outsource certain tasks simply because they don't like doing them for themselves. Again, the most common ones being content creation and link building. I have to be honest, content creation isn't something I enjoy doing myself and will outsource it when I need a large quantity created in a short period of time.
The other common reason is that you may be able to pay someone who can do a task better than you can, Affiliate Website Building requires you to be multi-faceted but we can't be good at everything all of the time.
Overall, outsourcing enables you to achieve two things; firstly and most importantly you can expand your online business a lot quicker than you would by working away on your own. Just think how long it takes you to research, plan, build and market a complete Affiliate Website, I think you'll agree that by taking just a few of those steps out of your own hands you could create significantly more websites in the time it takes you to create one.
Secondly, being able to grow your business more quickly ultimately brings you more profits in a short period of time, that being the ultimate aim of working online.
Being Careful When Outsourcing
Like anything online, outsourcing carries risks and it's important to be sensible, in control and "in the know" when it comes to outsourcing your work in order to avoid being ripped off. Several things you can do to are:
- Use a legitimate outsourcing community like TextBroker (Our TextBroker Plugin works great here) or ODesk, don't just grab anyone of forums such as DP without doing a lot of checks first
- Make sure you are the one in control and not the person you are outsourcing to, remember that they are working for you and not the other way around
- Always get some sample work done first before outsourcing large or complex projects
- Try and build a business relationship with a handful of people who you can outsource to. I now have a small number of people who specialise in difference areas who I have built a business relationship with and trust both them and their work
- Try and speak with your contacts over the phone (Skype is a good free way to do this over the Internet)
- Make sure you know how to complete the task yourself before outsourcing it (More below)
- See if your contact is open to you providing video training of how you want things done
- Most importantly, use your common sense!
Make Sure You Can Do It Yourself Before Outsourcing It
Just because you are outsourcing something shouldn't mean you haven't a clue how to complete it yourself. It's important to have at least a basic understanding of how a task needs to be completed, to what standard and how long that task should take to complete. If you don't know how to do it yourself first then how can you ever expect to understand whether what you are getting from your "employee" is actually good quality and value for money.
Just recently I tried out a VA (Virtual Assistant), I'd had one part time in the past who was great to work with but unfortunately gave up online due to family ties. I hired a full time VA for a one week trial, full time and liaised with them on the Sunday before they were due to start work, giving them their tasks for the week. I instructed the VA to send me their work at the end of each day, which they did. After the first couple of days it was immediately apparent that the volume of work I was receiving would have taken them far less than 8 hours to complete, it was also clear that the quality wasn't up to the standard I wanted. Needless to say that we parted ways that same week and I received a full refund from the company.
The point I am illustrating in that example is if I hadn't have known what quality required and the average time it would take to complete, I could have quite easily continued to pay the VA for "below Parr" work. This is why it's SO IMPORTANT to know how to do it yourself before getting someone else to do it for you.
In conclusion, outsourcing is a fantastic way to move things forward in your online efforts but just remember to be wise, be careful and be smart.
Have you tried outsourcing yourself? What experiences have you had? If you haven't tried it, then is this something you've thought about? Comments below please.

Great tips for outsourcing tasks, it’s an easy way to get more done and focus on what you do best. Forming a direct relationship with the person you outsource with is key, which is why individual freelancers, such as freelance writers, are often the best bet, and the most reliable. Outsourcing communities work well, but can be a bit of a crap shoot.
I agree totally, I aimed to find a group of people for the long term, which has enabled me to grow many parts of the business
I love it when you said be wise, be careful and be smart. Excellent advice indeed! Outsourcing carries “risks “where you must build business relationship with the people who deserve your trust and also it is very important to know how to do it yourself first before getting somebody else to do it for you. By then, you will know if it is in good quality & worth the price.

It’s certainly important to know how to do it yourself first, otherwise how can you possibly know if what you are paying for is value for money.
Ben,
This is an extremely important topic. I’ve seen too many (myself included) Internet based entrepreneurs get stuck working IN their business instead of ON it.
Look at the chart in Rich Schefren “Internet Business Manifesto”… how can one person possibly wear all of those hats, and still see things from a high level growth perspective???? They cant… just too many variables to consider.
Getting a network of reliable and communicative outsources in place can save you a world of hassle.
