My Blog Gets A New Home at .com

Published on 15th March 2009

As you may have noticed for a while now my blog has been hosted on the domain name www.BWJohnson.co.uk, which is a domain name that I bought around 3 years ago now when I first decided to build my own website. The websites on this domain name have taken several forms over the past few years but it has recently become the permanent home of my blog and needless to say that I have become quite attached to it. However, I have recently realised that with my blog getting more and more visitors it would be better if I went the route of the .com domain, especially since the majority of my readers are from the US, Australia and Canada, only a small number of my readers are actually from my home country in the UK.

My first thought was buying BenJohnson.com but do you think it was available? Like heck was it, unfortunately someone owns the domain and has one of those annoying google landing pages on it, so the website is serving no use to anyone whatsoever. It wouldn't bother me so much if the person who owned it actually had a website on it and was using it for a proper purpose, instead I would have to pay to go through enom and then most probably have to pay many hundreds of $$'s or more to buy my own name in a domain. Anyway, with this aside I knew that I wanted a domain with my name in it and I didn't really want anything else so I decided upon the name BenJohnsonBlog.com, made sense since this was the same of my blog anyway :).

So after a lot of tweaking and final touches my blog has now officially moved over from BWJohnson.co.uk to BenJohnsonBlog.com as of 21:00 GTM tonight. Now I know your sitting there thinking it looks no different, well no it doesn't to you but it did to me.....i've finally taken my blog to the world of .com. Sad isn't it :).

If you weren't already then you will now be thinking why is he telling us this, well basically the site database was transferred during the site move and tweaks have been made to prevent you getting any 404 errors however inevitably there will be something I have missed. If you do come across any 404 errors, missing pages or general errors then please do let me know, hopefully this won't happen though.

As a side note don't forget you can now follow me on Twitter at www.FollowBenJohnson.com .

Right then, it's time to go off and begin trying to build those 2-3K backlinks I had to my site and the Alexa ranking. I hope you all had a great weekend.
