Taking Time Out Is So Important!
Having just returned from a nice break away in the Mediterranean I suddenly realized how important it is to be able to take a step back from everything and relax for a while. When working from home it's all too easy to work from 8am to 10pm and not think anything of it, but it all soon catches up with you.
This is the first time I have been away (abroad) since I began working full time online and leaving everything wasn't anywhere near as easy as I had first thought it would be, the autopilot business isn't so autopilot after all :). It wasn't until I actually sat down on a sunbed in the 28 degree heat, in the sunshine, with a cocktail or two that I actually realized how much I needed the break away from work. Fortunately or unfortunately, however you look at it, the hotel did actually have an internet connection so I was able to check in on the essential parts of my business from time to time, such as to answer support tickets and check on product sales. So this meant I wasn't completely switched off from work but I was 90% there.
In any business but more so in a business where it's so easy to work 12, 14 and more hours in a day it's essential to take the time out to enable you to function at your best when you are actually working. I actually sent a text message to a very good friend whilst on holiday and he text me back saying he couldn't actually believe I had gone on holiday at all, he thought I was joking. When that happens you certainly realize it's a good time for a rest.
We didn't go anywhere particularly exotic, just to Menorca, but it was really nice to get away, just myself and Kate. Most importantly we had a great time and it was lovely to be able to spend so much time together.
For those of you who are interested I thought you may want to see a few holiday snaps, the image above is of one of the pools and pool bars.
Here's me and a palm tree, why?, I'm not sure!

Here are am in the Harbor in the capital of Menorca

Here is Kate outside the apartment looking lovely as always

It really was time for a break :)

Hey Ben, I’m watching football on the tv that’s on my desk – see it’s still hard to get away from the pc. I know what you mean on the need to get away, but soon once your away you either realize or want to check on your operation. My family took a cruise a few months ago, left the technology behind, except for my phone, so I could still check on things. Like the resort pics.

@ Sean –
I know what you mean, I have to stop myself from visiting iPlayer and watching Gavin and Stacey :) whilst working.
Nice!
I must have one soon!
Best wishes
Mike
@ Mike –
You should, it’s amazing how much better you feel for it.
Look’s like you had a good time and you were able to recharge. I felt like I hit a brick wall a few weeks ago but couldn’t really take a break with all my commitments. But, my family and I are going home (Zimbabwe) next month for 7 weeks with stopovers here and there on the way there and back. This will hopefully give me time to just get away from everything!
@ Gerri – Absolutely, I came back feeling completing refreshed and ready to get to work.
It sounds like your in need of a break as well, I hope you have a fantastic time, 7 weeks will be a really nice break and you will come back all recharged and raring to go :)

@ Gerri – I meant to say I love the new look of your blog, really really fresh and professional. Great competition you have running there as well.
