Top Tips For Outsourcing Content!

Building a healthy portfolio of product based niche affiliate websites has been dubbed the N1Way to make money online. However, building a portfolio which is large enough to bring you in a significant amount of income is something which the majority of people struggle to achieve on their own. That said, it's entirely possible to build a portfolio of websites on your own which consistently bring you in enough money to work from home it's just going to take you significant longer to do so.

Outsourcing is a good way of speeding up this process and it's covered fully as a step in the N1Way e-guide. The entire process of site building can be outsourced from niche research right thought to actually putting the site together and submitting it to the first search engine, however outsourcing costs money!

As far as this process is concerned I only outsource things which I don't like doing or am not particularly good at, usually a mixture of both! I don't mind researching and finding my own markets or actually putting the site together and designing logos etc, but one thing I don't enjoy doing is writing content for my sites. The main reason for this is that it can be such a time consuming and laborious process, one which I tend to avoid where possible. For me this is where outsourcing really comes into it's own.

Where To Look For A Writer

When you are outsourcing a content job you should be thinking long term, it's okay to get a few articles written by a few different people but if your building a network of sites and want quality content from a writer who understands your needs then you need to find someone who you can use over and over again. There are several places where freelance writers advertise such as GetAFreeLancer.com and WarriorForum.com but the place where I have always to get quality content from is TextBroker.com. The benefit of using a service like TextBroker.com is that they protect both parties by acting as a go-between. Whilst you have to deposit funds into your account, these funds are not released until you are 100% happy with the work which protects you fully from scam artists.

Choosing A Good Writer

Remember, you are looking for a writer who can provide you with long term services, someone who understands you, how you work and what sort of content you expect. Being able to develop a working relationship is essential and is something which I always aim to do.

There are two ways of placing an order on Text Broker, there is the direct order and the open order. An open order allows you to specify the quality of the content ranging from 1 start through to 5 star, 5 star being the most expensive. It also allows you to define the category which you want your author to have expertise in. Conversely, the direct order allows you to place an order with a specific author, if you don't have an author in mind then the open order is usually the best option to get you started.

When looking for a writer on TextBroker.com there are several things you should look at:

  1. Look at the price per word: This is usually something you can negotiate with the writer after a few orders anyway and if you are likely to be putting a good chunk of work their way then I would encourage you to negotiate it if it's what you would consider to be high price. Please remember to be reasonable though, they have a living to earn just as we do!
  2. Look at the total number of articles submitted compared to the total number rejected: You are always going to get authors who have had articles rejected, this doesn't mean they are a bad writer, it may have been that the article wasn't exactly what the customer wanted. Even with this in mind you should be looking for a low rejection rate against a high article volume, for example I would be dubious working with someone who had written 200 articles and had 20 rejected.
  3. Look at the authors expertise: There are many writers out there who may be able to provide you great content on one specific niche topic, e.g. golf, however you are trying to find a writer who you can develop a good working relationship with and who you can go to for more content. Therefore, I wouldn't restrict myself by going to someone who only writes around a very specific topic because unless you are building a network of 10-15 sites around the same niche then you aren't going to be able to use this author again. So it's much better to go for someone who has a range of expertise in different areas.
  4. Look at the authors country of origin: This is essential, you need to make sure your author can write fluently in English.

Outsourcing Costs!

Outsourcing doesn't come cheap if you outsourcing the entire content of your website it will usually cost around $250-300 for a site with 50 reviews and 3-5 guides. Of course, this is meant to be an investment and you should make this back but don't throw money at it expecting to get it back in a months time. Some sites will start earning straight away and some may take several months or up to a year to reach their full earning potential.

How many of you have been outsourcing your content or even your entire site builds? I am currently offering an outsourcing site build package which gets the 'donkey' work done for you, you can read more over at Niche Store Designer.

Hi Ben, An excellent blog post, well written and informative.

Outsourcing is something I intend to get into when I get established.

    Regards, ray.

I absolutely LOVE textbroker! There’s NO ONE that can compare, IMO.

Nothing like submitting an order and having it within a few hours… and most of the time even faster than that!

    Nice post…

  3. Ben says:

@Jake – Your absolutely right! It’s great not having to sit and write page upon page of content about golf putters or ladies handbags :).

Textbroker is my first choice every time as well.

@Ray – Thanks for that. Outsourcing is a great thing to get into as far as site building is concerned, it certainly allows things to move a lot more quickly.

  4. Jake says:

From the other side of the picture, speaking as a freelance writer, Textbroker is really not a top tier choice… at least when you’re seeking quality as opposed to bottom-bin prices. I don’t know of a single decent writer who spends any time on Textbroker except to accept high paying personal requests.

That’s not to say there aren’t good writers on there… just the perception within a loose community of writers is basically, you get what you pay for on there. And if you’re not paying much…

    All just IMHO.

  5. Ben says:

@Jake – I have not experienced the lower quality of textbroker and always use 4/5 star writers and can honestly say I have never had a problem with them or the quality, I’ve been extremely happy.

Whilst all copy should be of good quality, it’s like everything it life, you often get what you pay for and like you say if your not paying much….

I see you offer some good quality services yourself.

  6. Rochelle says:

    @Jake,

If you find TextBrokers to be a lower-end option, then which site(s) do you recommend for top tier choices?

    Rochelle

  7. Rochelle says:

Sorry – I meant to add that I’ve used TextBrokers several times and have been impressed overall.

  8. Diane says:

I have been using Texbrokers for product reviews, site reviews, buying guides, etc. I first put a couple of different things out there and recieved good content from 3 different people. One person seemed to write especially well and matched what I would have written myself. I sent the next order just to her. We started exchanging messages and I have been using her excldusivily ever since.

  9. Jake says:

@Ben – Well I’m glad you’ve had good luck there, and I’m certainly not trying to dismerit any of the writers there or people who use their services.

I just know a lot of writers who have been unhappy with things there, and a handful of clients who weren’t happy with the value of the content they receive.

As you say it’s all relative, and people have different needs for their content to be sure.

@Rochelle – A place like Constant Content attracts a lot of high quality writers, or just independent freelancers who you can build a more substantial/direct relationship with.

  10. Ben says:

@Jake – That’s fair enough, thanks for the info. I’ll certainly look into Constant Content, or maybe even some of your own services, I’m always on the look out for good content writers :).

    Ben

  11. Ben says:

@Diane – It’s good to know you have had good experiences with TextBroker as well. It’s nice to be able to palm off content writing, it’s not my most favorite job I’ll be honest.
