SettinYour Targets & Goals For 2010
At the end of 2008 I sat down and decided that by the end of 2009 I would have built up my online business enough to leave my full time job in the National Health Service. In October 2009 I achieved that goal and left my 'day job' to start running my online business on a full time basis. Being able to run my own business was always something I had wanted to do, having watched my grandfather and parents run a successful company themselves eversince I was a child. But it was only in 2008 that it became a realistic consideration for me, I had obtained the univiersity degree I wanted and spent 3 years in the 'real' world of work, deep down knowing it wasn't what I wanted.
When I set that goal in 2008 I was pretty confident I would achieve it by the end of 2009 and if I didn't achieve it by then I knew it wouldn't be too long afterwards. Now, that's not me being big headed or over confident, I never set goals I know I can't achieve and there is an important reason for that. If you set goals which are un-realistic and far out of your own reach then you have already failed before you've begun and this is not likely to do your self confidence much good in the long run. Equally, setting no goals at all will have you blindly working your way through your online ventures with no purpose and no targets to aim towards and this will ultimately be your downfall.
Set S.M.A.R.T Goals For 2010!
Whatever has happended this year 2010 is a new year, it's an opportunity to start a fresh and make it a whatever you want it to be. It's time to set yourself clearly defined achievable goals. Take a peice of paper and jot down a list of goals you want to have achieved by the end of next year and then pick out just 5 of those goals which are most important to you and, more importantly, most achievable. Once you've done that decide when you will have achieved it by. Of course your goals don't have to be just business related, you may also have personal goals you want to achieve, if you have then write those down as well.
The year 2010 has a chance to bring you whatever you want it to bring, so be organised, get focused and get ready to achieve your goals. I've started my list, have you?

Glad to see you were able to achieve this goal Ben. I’ve been working at home – online – for a couple of years now and it’s the best job I’ve ever had.

    Ben,

I hope you have another great year in 2010. How about writting about getting traffic. I think all the plugins and scripts I have are working great, I just need more traffic/better rankings. Do you suggest traffic-bug since you have the ad at the top of the page? I get a page error for IE after going to that page, so will try Firefox to read what it is about. Any other suggestions for traffic? (I am buying aged domains with backlinks).

@Diane – And to you too Diane, I hope this year works out well for you.

Sure no problem, I can put a few posts together about web traffic and different methods I use. I’ve covered a few things here which may be of interest to you:

    And Here: http://www.benjohnsonblog.com/category/basic-seo-techniques/

I do use traffic bug for almost all of my sites for social bookmarking, rss bookmarking and search engine submission and see decent results in my rankings. Of course I use this in conjunction with other on page and off page strategies.

If you try that link in FF it should work okay.

    Ben
