Happy New Year – Goals For 2010!

Written By Ben Johnson on 4 January 2010 2 People Commented
Well it's 2010 already, where does all of the time go? Happy new year to you all I hope you had a nice relaxing break and took some time off to be with friends and family. This is going to be my first full day back at work since the holidays, I have done some work over the festive period but I made sure I took most of it off to spend time with family and friends. In fact this will only be the 2nd Christmas I have had off in the last 11 years, for the other 9 of those years I worked Christmas day and/or Boxing day in my day job within the National Health Service and whilst I did enjoy it at the time it's made me appreciate the time I now get to spend with my family at Christmas. Additionally, the time away from the computer has left me feeling truely refreshed and full of motivation for 2010.
You will remember that back in 2009 I wrote a post about Setting yourself clear and specific goals for 2010 and listing these down on a peice of paper, remembering to only set goals which you know you have a chance of achieving. The question is have you done it? I know I have!

My Goals For 2009

In 2009 I set a small number of clear targets and these were:
  • To be able to run my online business full time by 2010 (Biggest Target)
If you look at alot of the Affiliate Marketers out there you will notice that they talk about walking away from a job they hated, one which they had to work 60 hours a week at in order to make ends meet, this really wasn't the case for me. I had a good job which I enjoyed and had spent 4 years at university training to do but I had reached what some people refer to as 'the tipping point'. My online income had grown beyond what I had ever expected, I was spending more and more time working at my computer and I had less and less time for friends and family, in addition to that I wasn't 100% focused on my 'day job' as a result. I knew that I had 1 of 2 options, I either walked away from my online business and focused 100% on my career and my family OR I set myself the goal of making my online business my career by the end of 2009. Lets just say you only live once and I believe if you never try then you will never know and in 2009 I made my BIG Announcement and Affiliate Wizard Ltd was born!
  • To generate multiple streams of income in my Affiliate Marketing business
Back in 2008 ALOT of my income was purely from eBay Partner Network (ePN). This wasn't deliberate but you have to remember that I had a well paid 'day job' which more than paid the bills so any additional income over and above that simply made my life a lot more comfortable. But when I decided to try and make my part time hobby into a viable business I knew that this had to change.
  • To develop my blog
Developing my blog was part of my business plan and whilst I am pleased with the progress I have made with it there are still a lot of improvements I want to make to it this year along with dedicating more time to updating it.
  • To release at least 1 digiatl product in 2009
This was another part of my business plan and I more than achieved it by releasing three successful products which have done extremely well, these were phpOStock, ReviewAZON101 and WordPress Commerce.
So these were my main business targets for 2009, all of which I am happy to say were achieved, but what are my targets for 2010?
  • To double the overall monthly turnover AND profit of Affiliate Wizard Ltd by July 2010 and to quadrupal it by December 2010
  • To post to my blog at least 3-4 times a week
  • To update my blog theme
  • To release 1 NEW digital product every 3-4 months starting with CompariPress in just a few weeks time
  • To increase my Affiliate Website portfolio by 300%
  • To further develop my local web design branch of Affiliate Wizard Ltd
Within the targets I have set for 2010 there are micro-targets which will help me to achieve my overall targets set above and I have a list of these sitting on my desk in front of me so I can keep focus on where I am taking my business. Overall I think it's going to be a pretty exciting year!
What business or personal targets have you set yourself and when do you want to achieve them by?

    Hi Ben,

Great Goals. I wish you all the best with them, although I think you are already on your way!

I like setting the goals each year, but I also like breaking the big goals down to bite sized chunks that I can work on every week. That way it isn’t so overwhelming and I don’t put my head in the sand!

See you back here soon! :P

@Jacinta Dean – Thank you Jacinta.

That’s the best way to be, if you break your goals down into small and manageable chunks then you are more likely to succeed at them.

    Good luck in 2010 :)

    Ben
